Abstract submissions for the ANZLAA Conference 2026 are now open.


The conference will take place on 27–28 August 2026 at the Royal On The Park, located in the heart of Brisbane.


We invite researchers, professionals, and industry experts to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations at the upcoming conference. The conference will bring together leaders from across the laboratory animal science community to share knowledge, explore emerging trends, and promote best practice in animal welfare and scientific research. The program will feature keynote presentations, invited speakers, panel discussions, and interactive workshops.


We invite you to be part of this conference by applying to present. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your work, contribute to the field, and connect with peers from across the industry.

Please note: submitting an abstract does not automatically register you for the conference. All presenters must register by the deadline to be included in the final program.

Themes for abstract submissions

Abstracts may address (but are not limited to) the following areas:


Reflect. Refine. Reimagine.

Exploring how animal care and use practices have evolved over the past 20 years and whether these changes have resulted in measurable, meaningful welfare improvements.


Pain, Procedure & Progress

Examining the role of veterinarians and welfare professionals in research design, pain management, procedural refinement, and advancing humane science.

        

Measuring What Matters

Focusing on how we assess and demonstrate impact through education, communication, culture, data, and meaningful welfare metrics.

        

Policy & Compliance

Addressing the balance between regulatory requirements, WHS obligations, ethical governance, and the pursuit of best practice standards.


Operations Behind the Scenes

Highlighting the practical realities of facility management, including daily operations, leadership, resource coordination, and maintaining high welfare

outcomes.


Submissions are welcomed from professionals including:

Guidelines and Submission Instructions

Please review the Abstract Guidelines below for submission requirements for the ANZLAA 2026 Conference.

  • Abstracts must be submitted via the online submission portal
  • Email or hard copy submissions will not be accepted
  • All presentations must be delivered in person as we are unable to facilitate virtual presentations
  • Accepted presenters must register and pay to attend the conference
  • An abstract is a short description of the content that you will be presenting at the conference. The abstract selection committee will use it to decide whether your oral presentation or post will be accepted into the program. In addition, your abstract will be used to promote your oral presentation or poster to conference attendees.

Abstract Requirements

  • Title: Maximum 15 words
  • Abstract length: Maximum 350 words
  • Biography: Maximum 100 words (third person)

  • Aims/Objectives
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion

Please note:

  • Tables and figures are not permitted
  • References are optional and must be included within the word count
  • Submissions should be final and publication-ready

Presentation Formats

Please indicate your preferred format (note the program committee may adjust this):

  • Oral Presentation (15 minutes)
  • Oral Presentation (30 minutes)
  • Oral Presentation (45 minutes)
  • Poster Presentation

Authors and Affiliations

  • Ensure all author details and affiliations are accurate
  • Confirm presenting author
  • Obtain approval from all co-authors prior to submission


Declarations

During submission, you will be required to confirm:

  • Any conflicts of interest
  • Author approval of the submission
  • Permission for publication in conference materials


Submission Process

Abstract submission is completed through an online portal:

  1. Create an account (or sign in if returning)
  2. Enter author and contact details
  3. Complete all abstract fields
  4. Review your submission carefully
  5. Submit and receive confirmation email


Abstract Tips

  • Write clearly and concisely for a broad audience
  • Align your topic with the conference theme where possible
  • Focus on key findings and outcomes
  • Use a logical structure
  • Choose a clear and engaging title
  • Seek feedback before submitting

Accessing the Portal

If this is your first time submitting an abstract for the Conference, you must click on the blue ‘Create New Account’ button before being able to create your submission.

This will prompt you to enter your email address and create a password for your account. Once complete click on the ‘create’ button. You will then need to create a profile which is completed on the Contact Information tab. After creating a contact, additional tabs will appear that will enable you to submit, edit and withdraw any of your submission(s).

Note. If you have already created a profile, you will only need to enter your email address and password and click ‘Sign in’

Please remember that submitting an abstract does not automatically register you as a delegate. Presenters who fail to register by the due date risk having their presentation removed from the program.
