WELCOME TO ANZLAA 2026

Hosted at the Royal On The Park, Brisbane, Australia, ANZLAA 2026 will celebrate the ingenuity, dedication, and progress of the Australian and New Zealand laboratory animal science community.

Marking 20 years of ANZLAA, this year’s theme “Celebrating 20 Years of ANZLAA: Honoring the Past, Shaping the Future” invites us to reflect on how far we’ve come while looking ahead to the future of our field. The conference will showcase the diversity of our industry, the continued importance of animal welfare, and its critical role in underpinning robust, reliable science.

Our attendees span a wide range of disciplines, including Animal Technicians, Facility Managers, Veterinarians, Compliance and Safety professionals, Architects, and many others. Together, we come as a community to share knowledge, challenge perspectives, and learn through a dynamic program of in-person presentations, discussions, and workshops.

ANZLAA 2026 aims to shine a bright spotlight on local expertise and achievements. Whether from small, medium, or large organisations, and across both land-based and aquatic settings, the conference will highlight the breadth, depth, and impact of work across our sector.

The program will explore a range of themes, including:

  • Reflect. Refine. Reimagine.

Exploring how animal care and use practices have evolved over the past 20 years, and whether these changes have led to meaningful and measurable improvements in welfare.

  • Pain, Procedure & Progress

Examining the role of veterinarians and welfare professionals in research design, pain management, procedural refinement, and advancing humane science.

  • Measuring What Matters

Focusing on how impact is assessed and demonstrated through education, communication, culture, data, and meaningful welfare metrics.

  • Policy & Compliance

Addressing the balance between regulatory requirements, WHS obligations, ethical governance, and the pursuit of best-practice standards.

  • Operations Behind the Scenes

Highlighting the realities of facility management, including daily operations, leadership, resource coordination, and maintaining high standards of animal welfare.

Join us as we honour the past, engage with the present,

and shape the future of laboratory animal science.
